Verse 165Verse 164

VERSE NO. 164

Here is a convincing reasoning for the worship of Allah, saying:

``When Allah is the Lord and the Cherisher of all things, and among them me, myself, should I take any other than Him for my Lord!?''

Then there is an answer for the Jews and idolaters, who went to the prophet and said: ``Follow our religion, and respect our idols, and we promise to carry the load of its wrong and sin, if there be any; and we shall hold all the responsibilities of your acts here!''

Quran strictly answers them that no one will bear the burden of another, and everyone is held in pledge of his own deeds.

We may sometimes be affected with the evils of other people without having the least of effects in what they have done. In such cases we shall be rewarded and recompensed somehow indirectly by God for our guiltless sufferings. In contrary, if we do something good to other people, the credit of our good deeds will be indirectly returned to our account by the universal plan of God. This is to say: ``He who does evil and bad deeds will not eventually receive good results, and he who does good, his good deeds will not be lost or left useless and unrewarded. Finally all of us will come to taste the consequences of our deeds, be it good or bad, big or small. We therefore should know that we are all responsible for what we do, and if the consequences of our acts are even transfered to someone else, it will finally return to ourselves, just as the reflection of our voice in a valley; nor can any one vicariously atone for other people's sins.''
