Verse 10WHY QUESTIONING?

WHAT SORT OF SCALE CAN WEIGH OUR DEEDS?

VERSES NO. 8 - 9

We have not seen the life to come yet, and we know not the details of things that will happen there. Our knowledge about it, is limited to what the prophets have said, or it is sent down to them through the Scriptures. To infer by analogy and comparison is also not a sure way to get the truth and to understand the facts - not true to measure other people's corn, with one's own bushel. But we are sure that for weighing and measuring anything, there must be a unit, and a scale, to measure an amount of it, or even its quality. Usually the unit is a distinct part of the whole thing.

According to some Islamic traditions, in the Final Judgement, the deeds of people are compared and then measured by the deeds of some godly and righteous persons, like the apostles, and saints and true Imams. They are the true and reasonable scales and measures for weighing man's deeds in the final court.

The Shiites in their song of call to prayer, (AZطN) rehearse the phrase: ``I testify that Imam Ali is the `HOJJAT' of Allah''. The Arabic word `HOJJAT', denotes, proof, evidence, reason, or justification, and all these meanings have the connotation of criterion, scale and measure, or standard unit of judgement. Therefore Hazrat IMAM Ali (AS) is an example, a scale or criterion for the judgement and weighings of man's deeds not only in the Day of Doom, but in every day.
