Verses 37-40Verses 34-36

The discussion is still around the origin and destination of Manِhis creation and resurrection. It begins with the fact that, the false gods can not create anything, nor sustain a creation, and neither guide a creature. On the contrary, they themselves, even those who are deified, need to be guided in all dimensions of life.

The above verses imply that, God is the only one who guides to truth. This limitation is set because guidance is not only a matter of showing the way to some one. It also consists of leading and taking the wayfarer to his destination of truth. The verses clearly show that one of God's programmes for His servants is guiding them to the truth. This is done partly by equipping them with the faculties of hearing, sight, wisdom, thought, and knowledge; and partly by teaching and preaching them through the prophets and the Divine Law.

The last of the above verses imply that the idolaters and polytheists (MOST OF THEM) follow their conjectures and imaginations. This is to say that they are of two groups; A group who make the majority, are those who follow their fancies and adhere to superstitions; and the second group who hold the minority, are those who know well that the idols can neither hurt nor profit their worshippers, and that idolatry has no base in truth. These are a group of hard and black hearted men who look only after their own material gains and temporary advantages. They sell their eternal prosperity in the life to come, for a small price in this lower life.

The first group are prone to be guided, and are likely to accept the truth, but the latter group who the word of God has been proved true against them, will never believe and shall eventually die faithless, and meet the eternal damnation.
