Verses 3-4Verses 1-2

This chapter (Sِ22) begins with the shocking verses about the dread of Resurrection Day to remind Man of the awful future that awaits him:ِ

``O, People! Beware of your Lord that the quake of the Hour is a great thing.''

Here, all people, without any exception have been addressed. The announcement includes all races, nationalities, colours, sex, culture, religion, and creed. It says that in the hour of Resurrection, a drastic change will occur in everything throughout the world. The sun and the moon are joined together. The stars become dim. The earth is severely shaken and throws up her burden. The mountains will be crumbled to atoms and scattered as dust, and some of them being as carded wool. The oceans will boil over and burst forth. The sky will be cleft asunder. The graves are turned upside down. Man will be like moths scattered about.

The second verse points to some of the reflections of the great dread of the Hour.

The consequence of God's disobedience is indeed terrible. Therefore, the extreme terrors of the awful Day of Resurrection has been shown here by three metaphors; that the mother will abandon her suckling baby; that the pregnant mother will cast down her burden due to the fear which has overtaken her, and that everyone will lose self-possession as if a drunkard.

In this dreadful condition, the believers with good deeds exceptionally will not have that fear, and on contrary, they feel happy when the angels of God joyfully welcome them.

In other word, the clause:ِ ``You will see people drunken while they are not drunken'' does not apply to the believers who have done good deeds. They do see the sinners intoxicated, but they themselves are not so.
