Verse 49Verses 45-48

In the first two verses here, five qualifications of the prophet have been referred to. In the next two verses five duties have been assigned to the Messenger of God, which are complementary to one another:-

The prophet has been sent to all Mankind, to be a witness upon them, to warn them against evil deeds, to invite them to be with God, that God might be with them; and as a light giving lamp.

In other word the prophet has been sent to people to convey God's Message to them, and to witness their reaction to the Message, and that how do they receive and handle it. He also carries the good news of God's Mercy for those who believe in God and do righteous deeds.

The prophet also came as a warner to those who pay no heed to God's Message which has been conveyed to them.

The prophet has also been authorized to call the mankind to be with God, to whom his call may reach. Mohammad (SA)'s authority, and duty, is not limited to a certain group of people, as it was the case with Moses, who had come to deliver the Israelites; and Jesus who had come to teach the true Mosaic Law; not more or not less, as he himself has said. (see MATT. 5:17) Mohammad (SA) is a light giving lamp, brighter than the sun, who has come to illuminate the whole world.

His Glorious Qurän and universal religion is to emit light through out the worlds in ages to come; a light which is indeed a great Grace and Mercy from God.

There are also five duties assigned to the prophet, in the next two verses:-

He has to give good news to the believers, that for them is a great Grace and Mercy from Allah. He who does a good deed Allah will grant him a tenfold rewards for that. In the S 32:17 we read:-

``No one knows what is hidden for them of that which refreshes the eyes as a reward for what they were doing.''

2 & 3ِThe second and third instructions from Allah to His Messenger are:-

``Do not obey the non-believers, and the hypocrites.''

Of course the prophet never obeyed the non-believers, but it may frequently happen that the truthful leaders may in certain cases be allured to compound and to put up with the enemies of God, by letting them to have some advantages and priviledges against their rights. This is to warn them to be cautious in their treatments with some cunning heathen or crafty hypocrites.

Then there is the fourth instruction that:-

``Pay no heed to their annoyance.''

Their instruction implies that the pagans had the prophet and his companions under a sever pressure; by taunting, torture, impoliteness, and applying economical sanctions. This was one way in Mecca, and otherwise in Medina.

And by the fifth instruction, Allah tells His Messenger to put his trust in God, and fear not his enemies; and pay no heed to their tricks and intrigues. By trusting our Lord and patience we may overcome all afflictions.
