Verses 77-78Verses 69-76

Again the reference is to the stubborn who disputes arrogantly about signs, and the revelations of Allah; without any knowledge and reason. They are not willing to submit to the order of God, which is the universal law of nature and creation.

Such disputes are not reasonable discussions, and are merely arguments based on blind imitation and arrogance. Such people have a heart sealed up by sinning, and a mind which is covered by ignorance. So the word of truth cannot easily penetrate in their souls. They reject faith, belie the Book of God, and deny the truth:-

``Those who belied the Book, and that with which we sent our Messengers will soon come to know.''

Here, ``THE BOOK=AL KITÄB'' is singular, with the prefix, ``AL'' which denotes a book which is already known to the persons spoken to; and therefore it must be the Holy Qurän. On the other hand, the clause; ``That with which God sent His Messengers'' may mean the scriptures that were revealed to the Messengers before Qurän.

When the sinners and rejectors of faith are chained by hands and feet, and they can walk no more in the path of truth, and even in their own path of falsehood, and they find heavy yokes fastened around their necks so that they cannot move their heads to see round about, then they will know to what a misfortune they have been afflicted.

Here, we may take the, ``YOKE'' to mean the slavery of Man to sin and evil, and devil, which will be fastened to their neck.

As to the chains and fetters that are on the hands and feet, the reference might be to Man's attachments and affection to his dearers and nearers.

Such sinning and attachment will pull Man further and further towards the boiling water of evil, the final destination of which is destruction and utter ruin in Fire of Hell:-

``That is because you were rejoicing in the earth without right and in vanity.''

Before Man is drowned in the boiling sea of sin, he begins to find his delight and rejoice in vanity and unlawful amusements which ends in rejecting the truth and refusing to be illuminated by the light of God.
