The Explanation and the MessageTHE SUFIS AND THE PROBLEM OF INCORPORATION AND UNITY

There are two major kinds of God’s attributes: the attributes of His existence or being and the attributes of His deeds that we have mentioned earlier.

Attributes of Existence

These are the attributes that are an inherent part of His being and existence and they have proven to have existed even before He created things like the ever living and eternal.

Attributes of Deeds

Those attributes that are understood and given because of His deeds like when we say God is the creator and the sustainer. It is clearly understood that these attributes were never imagined before He created things and sustained them. Yet He had the power to create and to sustain even before but these two words will not be spoken for the time He did not create and sustain. The attribute of deeds depends on the action and is not an inherent part of Him. Actually these are just the meanings that we have evolved. Externally there is only God and His deeds. When we find the actions coming from God we analyze them and then say that he is the creator and the sustainer. We will discuss in details but later.

Just as God’s deeds are unending so are His attributes. We find the most important attributes of his deeds that affect us humans and help us develop our own attributes are mentioned below:

Khaliq, Khallaaq, Ahsanol Khaliqeen, Fair, Baree’, Faliq, Badee’, Mosawwir, Maalik, Malik, Haakim, Hakeem, Rabb, Wali, Waali, Maula,

Hafiz, Hafeez, Raqeeb, Mohaiymin, Raaziq, Razzaaq, Kareem, Hameed, Fattaah, Rahman, Raheem, Arhamor Rahimeen, Wadood, Rauf, Lateef, Hafie, Ghaafir, Ghafoor, Ghaffaar, Afw, Tawwab, Jabbaar, Shakoor, Shaakir, Shafee’, Wakeel, Kaafi, Haseeb, Sariol Hisaab, Asra’al Hasibeen, Sariol Aqaab, Shadeedol Aqaab, Naseer, Na’mon Naseer, Khairal Nasireen, Qaahir, Qahhaar, Ghalib, Salaam, Momin, Mohiyee, Shaheed, Haadi, Khair.

There are sixty names in all. It should be noted that some among the fifty attributes in the Qura’n have similar meanings so we will discuss them together.

Khaliq, Khallaaq and Ahsanol Khaliqeen.

These attributes have used under different context in the Qura’n.

Verse 16 of Surah Ra’ad says:

“Say, “God is the creator of all things.” This refers to the creation of everything contingent.

In Verse 71 of Surah Saad Qura’n says, “I am about to create man from clay” this verse speaks of the supreme creation man in this universe from an insignificant thing like clay.

In verse 24 of Surah Hashr it says, “He is God, the Creator, the Originator, and the Fashioner.” This is a general reference and no specific creation is mentioned.

Verse 86 of Surah Hijr says, “Verily it is your lord who creates and knows all things.” This verse hints at the vastness of creation.

In verse 14 of Surah Muminun the Book says, “Then We developed another creature out it; so blessed is God the best creator.”

The verse speaks about the best and the most important creation of God, man, and the instilling of the soul in him and this shows how great a creator God is.
