The Day when secrets will be judged. The Day when all will come out from the graves.A Day of fifty thousand years

Whatever we have read until now about that Day is about the heart wrenching events that will take place on the eve of that Day. Each one of them has a specific message. The last explanation was that the Day will be exceptionally long and this too has a special message.

Now we will look for those explanations that depict the condition of mankind on that Day. Each explanation is more educating than the first.

Qura’n catches the hand of mankind and takes him to the field of gathering to give him a tour of each corner then exhibits all the events of the Day of Judgment before him.

This term has come only once in the Qura’n in verse 4 of Surah Qariah and describes the despair of mankind on that Day. It says:

“It is a Day on which mankind will be like moths scattered about.”

The same des c r i p tion has come in verse 7 of Surah Qamar and says:

“As if they were locusts scattered.”

Mankind has been compared to moths here. There are various interpretations of the commentators about it they all say in general that the reason for this des c r i p tion is the vast number of people, despair, horror, their running helter skelter, weakness and chaos.

It may also include that moth’s crash into the flames of candles and burn them. It will be the same for the sinners and the fire of Hell and all this reflects the great bafflement, despair and doubt.

This is a very vivid picture that depicts the strange condition of man on that Day which the Qura’n describes through a small simile. Some feel that the moth circles the burning candle to put himself in its fire because he has lost his memory but when he reaches the flame he feels the heat and then flies away but again forgets and once again comes near it. He finally burns himself in its flame.

The sinners with evil deeds will be in the same condition and would have lost their memory. Then will ultimately throw themselves in the fires of Hell.

The linguists and the commentators have prescribed many meanings for the “Farash”.

Some say some say it means the horde of locusts that fill the skies. Some say it means those mosquitoes that fly in groups but most of the linguists have taken it to mean moth and Khaleel Ibn Ahmed says in his book “Aleen”:

“Farash is the one that flies in search of light”

Sahah Loghata says: “Farash” is the plural of “farasha” that is the bird that flies but dives into the fire.
