The Day the disbelievers will meet the fireThe Day the excuses will not succeed

This is also one of the terrifying des c r i p tions that has come once in the Qura’n. Verses 27 and 28 of Surah Furqan say:

“On that Day the unjust shall bite his hands saying: “Oh! Would I have taken the path of the Messenger (28) Woe is me! Would that I had not taken such-and-such as friend.”

At times with deep regret man bites his hands and sometimes chews its back. If the remorse is great then he chews both the hands. This is the most vivid des c r i p tion of remorse, regret and shame.

Verse 39 of Surah Maryam says it is:

“the Day of Grief.”

What will he gain? Will it help to bite the hands? It will be more like taking revenge on himself. Will he get any peace? It will only increase their pains and ignominy.

According to Tafsir Al Mizan “Zalim” here means all kind of unjust people in the same way the word Messenger is used for all Messengers of God. Though here the attention is focused on the unjust ones in the Ummah and Messenger here means Hazrat Mohammad bin Abdullah.

The history of its revelation has been recorded in many commentaries which is very lengthy and we know that the history of the revelation does not curtail or restrict the meaning of the verse. (1)
