The Aim of death and lifeThe conditions of the true believers and the unjust at the time of death

Normally the face of death is terrifying for people and the proof is one of the two things: They either regard death as the end of everything or this may be because of their sins and their attachment to this world.

But why should he who considers death to be a new birth, a transfer to a greater world and a better life and who has accumulated a great amount of pious deeds for this journey while having no great love of this world, be afraid of death?

The 6th verse speaks about this:

“O Messenger tell them, “O Jews! If you think that you are friends of God while others are not, then express your desire for death if you are truthful.”

It further adds:

“But they will never express this desire because of the deeds their hands have sent before them. Gods knows well all who do wrong”

The point here is that the verse addresses the Jews on two points:

The first is that the Jew always and even today consider themselves as the chosen people of God and so consider themselves superior to all other people and sometimes consider themselves as the special nation and representatives of God as described in verse 18 of Surah Maidah.

They claim as described in verse 80 of Surah Baqarah: “No matter how great our sins the fire of Hell will never touch us but for a few days”

The Qura’n tells them, “why are you afraid of death when you are truthful in your claim?’ Is the journey from prison to the valley of peace terrifying?

In verse 94 of Surah Baqarah the Book says:

“Tell them: “If the home in the hereafter with God is indeed only for you and not for others, then long for death if you are truthful.”

Secondly, these people worshipped this world and were attached to material wealth. They were tainted with unjustified bloodshed and excess of sins and this is why they were so mortified of death.

In verse 96 of Surah Baqarah it is said:

“And verily you will find them (the Jews) the greediest mankind for life.”

Verse 95 of the same Surah had earlier said:

“But they will never long for it (death) because of what their hands have sent before them.”

According to this statement the Qura’n has described the reasons for fearing death and has mentioned the ways to overcome this terror. Some commentators consider this word as “Mubahila” with the Jews which is manner of confronting the liars. To prove the truth about their claims they should pray to God and say that they be shamed if they are liars (It will be affective if all other rules of Mubahila are included in it)

The proof is that the Hadith tells us that if the false claimants (the Jews) prayed for death then their throats would have constricted and they would all have been destroyed and killed.
