Verses 21-25Verse 20

ASCETISM AND RESERVE FOR THE LIFE TO COME
VERSE NO.20
This is the continuance of the previous argument about the spiritual and physical punishments of the unbelievers:-
``The Day in which the unbelievers are exposed to the fire, it will be said to them you did enjoy your good things in your earthly life. Here your rewards for what you have done of sinning is a humiliating punishment.'' This is because you preferred the fleeting pleasures of this earthly life over serious spiritual matters. Now the fruit of your choice is nothing but a humiliatinng painful punishment.
NOTE:
Being exposed to the Fire or the fire be exposed to Man, makes no difference, and it is some sort of a spiritual punishment, different to the physical punishment of burning in the Fire.
The Grand religious leaders, and in particular the saints and prophets had a very simple and ascetic life without the basic comfort. They go on with a disciplinary course of conducts persued by self-denial. They have found the good things and enjoyments of this life very fleeting. So they overlook such temporary thing to attain permanent one through a higher ideal.
