THE SOURCE OF HYPOCRISY
VERSES NO. 1-4
The title of ``HYPOCRITE'' was applied to a certain group of non-believers when our prophet emigrated from Mecca to Medina.
The prophet's arrival was welcomed almost by all the Medinan citizens, and united the majority of them in a religious brotherhood.
Then, a minority of the ignoble ones, with the lack of some essential high quality of mind and soul, were filled with envy. They cherished the hope of attaining power and leadership, by dounle-dealing,and playing fast and loose. For fear of the believing majority, they dared not oppose the new growing brotherhood; and therefore began to work underground, and intrigued secretly. So is the nature of every revolution which after a victory, encounters with hypocrites in the guise of faithfuls.
Quran has expressively described the hypocrites by the above verses:-
``If they come and say:-``We bear witness that...'' Why so? Because the hypocrites did not intend to report the advent of the Messenger of God. Their intention was to present themselves faithful to the prophet's mission, which was a sheer lie and evident pretence of those who were called hypocrites leaded by IBN ABI.
They concealed themselves behind a covering of oaths and false claims of faithfulness, in order to pave the way for their mysterious intrigues and secret conspiracies. This was why QurÌn frankly declared them to be avowed enemy who should be avoided.
Hypocricy which is misrepresenting of one's real character or opinion is a great and rich source of danger and troubles in any society. As a matter of fact, a hypocrite is more dangerous than an avowed enemy, that the enemy is known well, but a hypocrite is concealed and unknown.
It is also a dangerous spiritual disease, which is very contagious and spreads from one to another rendering the whole society sick.
A hypocrite by his double-dealing and playing fast and loose, fogs his understanding, and finally a seal will be set on his heart that bars him from apprehension of truth.
Hypocrite usually works with a fine appearance, and by eloquent speech, and by expressing their pretended agreement, they try to win the confidence of every one. They pretend without the least amount of sincerity, and therefore, nothing of their words or deeds worth a penny or aught.
