Quran,Translation and Commentary in Brief (Vol. 06)
Verses 27-33Verses 15-26

PHARAOH SAID:-``I AM YOUR LORD, THE MOST HIGH!''
VERSE NO. 15-26
Here, the immediate reference is to Pharaoh, one of the great arrogant blasphemers of the history; in order to warn the heathens, and to encourage the believers not to fear the apparent power of the enemies of God.
TOWA is said to be a SACRED VALLEY at the foot of mount Sinai, between Madyan and Egypt, where Moses received the first light of inspiration, and was instructed to go and warn Pharaoh:-
``Has the story of Moses come to you when his Lord called him in the Sacred Valley of TowÌ, and told him to go to Pharaoh that he has rebelled?''
Moses asked Pharaoh if he was willing to be chaste and purified. He therefore, did not say to the king that he had come to purify him. He rather asked if the king was willing to be purified and guided to the right way of God. This manner implies that purification should come about from inside of a person by his own intention and Free Will; not from an imposition from an outside force.
Pharaoh rejected the call and increased his disobedience to the ultimate point, and therefore he deserved his severe punishment, so as to be a lesson for the other transgressors of ages to come.
The above lessons that can be taken from the above abstract story of Pharaoh are as follows:-
1-Although Pharaoh was a disbeliever puffed up with pride; still God's Mercy was offered to him through an Arch Prophet, yet he arrogantly rejected God's Grace!
2-The outcome of his arrogance and rejection was his fall and punishment in this world. Yet, in the Hereafter, his punishment is harder than here.
