Issue No. 1176- A traveller who decides to stay at a place for ten days should offer the obligatory fast; he may also keep a recommended fast, and offer nāfilah (recommended prayer) of ẓuhr, ‘aṣr and ‘ishā’ prayer.
Issue No. 1177- If a traveller who has intended to stay at a place for ten days, but after the passing of ten days or offering a four rak‘at prayer, goes to a place which is less than four farsakhs and then returns he should perform complete prayer. If he wishes to go to a place which is less than eight farsakhs away and stay there for ten days, he should offer complete prayer on the way and also at that place. In case, however, the place he wants to go is eight farsakhs away or more, he should shorten his prayer on the way, and he should offer complete prayer where he intends to stay for ten days.
Issue No. 1178- If one decides to stay at a place for ten days, under the impression that his companions intend to stay there for ten days, but after offering a four-rak‘at prayer it transpires that they have not intended this, and he changes his mind as well, he should offer complete prayer so long as he is there.
Issue No. 1180- If a traveller intends to stay at a place for nine days or less, and after spending this period, he decides to stay there for another period of nine days or less, and in this way thirty days pass away, he should offer qaṣr prayer. He should offer complete prayer from the thirty-first day onwards.
Issue No. 1184- If a traveller knows that he should offer qaṣr prayer but does not know some of the details [e.g., he does not know that this rule is for the journeys of eight farsakhs] and offers complete prayer, the obligatory precaution is to repeat the prayer in a qaṣr form.
Issue No. 1186- If a person who must offer complete prayer, offers qaṣr prayer intentionally, forgetfully or by mistake, his prayer is void. Even if he had intended to stay at a place for ten days, but owing to not knowing the rule, he performed qaṣr prayer, the obligatory precaution is that he should repeat the prayer as complete.
Issue No. 1187- If a person begins offering a four rak‘at prayer, and recollects during prayer that he is a traveller, or that his journey is of eight farsakhs, he should complete the prayer in two rak‘ats provided that he has not gone into the rukū‘ of the third rak‘at. However, if he has gone into the rukū‘ of the third rak‘at, his prayer is void, and he should offer qaṣr prayer.
Issue No. 1188- If a person begins qaṣr prayer and remembers during the prayer that he is not a traveller, or his journey is not a journey in which prayer should be shortened, he should complete the prayer offering four rak‘ats and his prayer is correct.
Issue No. 1189- If a person is a traveller at the outset of prayer time and does not perform prayer and later he arrives in his hometown or a place he wishes to reside at for ten days, he should offer complete prayer. On the contrary, if a person who is not a traveller does not offer prayer at the beginning of prayer time, and goes on a journey, he should offer qaṣr prayer during the journey.
Issue No. 1189- If a person is a traveller at the outset of prayer time and does not perform prayer and later he arrives in his hometown or a place he wishes to reside at for ten days, he should offer complete prayer. On the contrary, if a person who is not a traveller does not offer prayer at the beginning of prayer time, and goes on a journey, he should offer qaṣr prayer during the journey.
Issue No. 1190- If one’s prayer becomes qaḍā during travel, he should perform its qaḍā by performing qaṣr prayer even if he is performing the qaḍā at his hometown. On the contrary, if one’s prayer becomes qaḍā in his hometown, he should perform its qaḍā as complete, though he may be travelling at the time he offers its qaḍā.
Issue No. 1192- rules with respect to traveller’s prayer has nothing to do with the easiness or hardship of the journey, therefore in today’s comfortable journeys too, one should shorten his prayer in accordance with the foregoing conditions.
